Recently, Oscar winner George Clooney decided to sue a Paparazzi Photographer for invasion of privacy. According to the Article (link) from the LA Legal Examiner, celebrities have been complaining for several years about the aggressiveness of the Paparazzi photographers.

This is mainly because the photographers are rewarded sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars for exclusive photographs. This time however, the photographer took it too far. The article claims that the photographer violated what the court calls “reasonable expectation rights” when the Paparazzi photographer climbed the fence of Clooney’s Italian lake home.

The photographer then proceeded to take pictures of Clooney and his girlfriend in his backyard, as well as his daughter in her bedroom. This case has not been decided yet, but according to the article and the facts, authorities are certain that the case will go in Clooney’s favor.

In my opinion, I agree with celebrities when they say that the media and press sometimes take photographing too far. Just because they are celebrities and have high status’, doesn’t in any way mean that they should not have the same rights as the general public.

It is said that the media abuse and Paparazzi smothering celebrities is the “price you pay for fame.” However, I feel as if sometimes the media takes it too far, just to make sure that their company succeeds in exposing celebrities and making sure they have enough interesting stories to satisfy the public.

This case and implication should cause the media to take a backseat stance on the aggressiveness of pursuing celebrities. I believe that it should though, because at the end of the day, celebrities are just like us and they deserve the same rights as Americans that the general public has.

Here is a LINK of Fox News discussing the case. In summary, sometimes media take things way too far in order for them to have a successful business. Although this case may give celebrities some space and privacy, I feel that it will only be a matter of time before they strike back again and go over the edge to get a story.

I chose to research product placement for the movie “The Hangover” from 2009. Basically, The Hangover is a comedy about a bachelor party gone horribly wrong in Las Vegas, two days before the groom’s wedding.

Towards the beginning, there is a scene that shows the four gentlemen taking shots of Jagermeister on the rooftop of Caesers Palace in Las Vegas. That is the last scene that the main character / groom (Doug) is in for quite some time. The next scene shows the other 3 gentlemen: Stu, Phil, and Alan, waking up extremely hung over and having no recollection of the night before.

After getting themselves together they realize that Doug is missing and the entire movie is based on them piecing things together to eventually find him on the rooftop towards the end.

I found that there were several obvious product placements throughout the movie, and I feel as if it is only fitting. I say this because the movie was filmed in Vegas, and obviously Vegas is a major attraction in the world.

First, the product that mostly stood out to me was the vintage Mercedes Benz convertible. It was obvious from beginning to end that the producer and advertiser wanted to make clear that it was a Mercedes

There are a few examples throughout the movie that make it clear that Mercedes Benz is meant to stick out. Primarily, in the beginning of the movie, the owner of the convertible, who is the bride’s father, informs Doug that he can take the car to Vegas. They make it clear that the father loves that car and that the Mercedes Benz emblem is very visible.

Another example is when the crew stops at the gas station and an older gentleman approaches the car when Alan is pumping the gas. “That’s a sweet ride you got there”, said the old man. After this was said, the Mercedes emblem was presented again.

A different product that was intentionally placed in the movie was the alcoholic beverage “Jagermeister.” During the rooftop scene when the 4 main characters were together, Alan approached the three with the Jagermeister and 4 shot glasses. The groom, Doug, proceeded to say “Uh oh, a little Jager.

Finally, a third product that could be assumed of being intentionally placed in the movie was “Monster” Energy Drink. Following the rooftop scene, when the men woke up in the morning, the camera angle was zoomed in only on Stu’s facial expression and a can of Monster right next to him.

I feel that the Mercedes Benz product placement was designed primarily to catch the attention of the audience. I say this because the symbol was shown so many times and there were a lot of references to the convertible.

There is additional references and movie information located at this LINK.

This is a very tough topic for me to discuss for my blog because I am a Steelers fan. However, I feel that this topic is perfect and that Ben Roethlisberger deserved to be punished for his actions.

In early March, Ben Roethlisberger was accused of rape in a nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia. The accuser claimed that Ben Roethlisberger bought shots for her and her friends, and then one of his bodyguards escorted the woman to the hallway. After sitting her down on a stool, the bodyguard left, and that’s when Roethlisberger arrived in the hallway. According to ESPN’s article (Seen HERE), the woman claimed that Ben Roethlisberger exposed himself to her; she then walked away and entered the bathroom.

The women then claims that Roethlisberger followed her in and locked the door, then proceeded to rape her, and then left. Later on, Ben Roethlisberger was found not guilty of the charges and the case had been dropped. However, just a few days ago, the commissioner of the NFL suspended him for 6 games for violating NFL policy.

Now, if I were heading Ben Roethlisbergers’ public relations campaign, there would be several steps I would take to reverse the negative publicity. I would create a formal speech for my client to present in a press conference. This speech would include an apology to fans, family, friends, and the Steelers organization. I would not include an apology to the accuser because that would just prove that if he in fact committed the crime, he is admitting to it.

Additionally, I would have my client discuss his dedication for a change in character and bad decision-making. All aspects of this speech would not violate the PRSA Code of Ethics, mainly because the entire speech is truthful and accurate.

After doing this, I would make sure my client participates heavily in NFL charity programs such as “NFL Cares”. This final approach I would implicate would be so bold and unexpected that I feel as if the audience would respond positively. I would have my client donate to a charity for sexual assault against women as a sign of him maturing as a person and learning from his mistakes.

When it comes to mind, there is truly one book that made an impact on my life. To be honest, one of the reasons why it made such a difference in my life is because I am not a huge book reader. In spite of this, ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ by Madeliene L’ Engle will be a book I will always remember.

Although I read it at such an early age in 5th grade, I will never forget A Wrinkle in Time. This was a fictional book that we had to read in 5th grade. I can honestly say that this is the only book I have ever read that I will remember so vividly.

I still keep in contact with some people from my elementary school, one of them being my roommate. When I reminded my roommate about the book, he immediately remembered it and we started a discussion about it.

Imagine that, two sophomores in college talking about a book they read in elementary school. That is how awesome and how much of an impact the book can have on young minds. The main reason why this book made such a difference is because its imagination and creation that gives young minds.

It’s crazy to think about because it incorporates real life scenarios, like abduction and stereotyping. While real life concepts are involved in this book, L’ Engle also does a terrific job of creating a dream world scenario for the reader. When you’re young, all you imagine and visualize is the bizarre worlds and ideas that the author puts in your head.

However, when you’re older and you think more in depth about the concepts, you can see that there are subliminal messages of a democratic society and independency. For example, there is a planet called “IT” that controls the mind of every body on the planet, which could be a hidden message of a democracy.

According to this Article, Scientists have discovered that A Wrinkle in Time is one of the first books to actually open up children’s imaginative speculation of the world. This book hasn’t necessarily influenced me today literary wise; however, it has influenced me heavily on my imagination and creativity. I still enjoy watching cartoons and using my imagination as an escape from reality.

Watching Disney movies while I was growing up was such an inspiration and pleasure to me and I don’t know anyone who would say different. At the time of my early childhood, I loved watching Disney movies I couldn’t wait for them to come out. It would always bring my family together and still does today with cartoons such as Family Guy.

There are so many different values and messages that can be seen through animation it is bizarre to think about. In the movies such as Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin the central theme is a different type of character be attracted to another character for love. These movies can point out the value of seeking true love no matter what their appearance looks like.

Also in these movies, there is usually an obstacle that one character must overcome to seek true love. For example, Aladdin’s antagonist, Jafar, was a barrier in the way for him to be with Jasmine.

Even movies like Finding Nemo and Toy Story can relate to the fact that you can be different and still be accepted in life. For example, Nemo is stranded from his parents and tries to find them and he still got help from different breeds of fishes. This can be a message of unity between everyone and a moral of judging people.

Every main character is prevailed to be on the good side and be the hero, which can translate to trying to inspire kids to be righteous.

Now, Disney can film their movies in IMAX 3D Theatres, if I was a child again I know that would absolutely blow my mind. Disney movies have always been a part of my childhood and I feel as if it is impossible for their movies to teach bad morals. I believe Disney movies are brilliant because they teach kids good morals and give them inspiration as young minds.

It can calm children down and sometimes get them through rough times because they can get lost from reality in their imagination based from this article.

Whether we want to admit it or not, social networking has taken up a large portion of our society and will only continue to expand. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter are not only addicting to children and young teens, but to adults as well.

However, like all phenomenon’s, there will always be pros and cons. There are different aspects of social networking that reach out to certain areas such as education and business.

Beginning with Education. Most teachers and professors are rather upset with the emergence of social networking. In spite of this, it truly is a blessing in disguise, and the more technology savvy teachers will understand this. In the article link I have posted above, it gives some pros and cons about social networking and education.

The main reason why teachers aren’t advocates of social networking is because some students have used this social trend to defame or insult teachers publicly. Also another huge reason why teachers are against social networking is because the classrooms and courses that offer internet access during class. I say this because students might take advantage of the internet access to log onto facebook and check their notifications or chat with friends. By doing so, it takes away from their valuable learning time and the teachers efforts to educate.

On the other side of the fence, the technology savvy teachers can use social networking to their advantage to get an edge in education. For example, a Geography teacher could post climate and weather videos and study guides on YouTube. Once the videos are on YouTube, the students can virtually access it anywhere there is internet access.

Another positive outcome of social networking in education is exactly what it sounds like — social networking. Students in the same class can add each other on sites such as Facebook or Myspace. Once they are friends, they can communicate through these sites about missed assignments or even misunderstanding of assignments.

After reading this article, I believe that there is much more positive effects than negative effects that come out of social networking in education.

Social Networking can also affect the business environment. In this Business article, it gives you 10 reasons why social networking is important to business. Some of the ways include: recruiting for jobs, industry updates on Twitter, in-depth recruitment for colleges, and most importantly, marketing and advertising.

For sites such as Facebook, companies can create fan pages such as PlowOn Gum. In doing this, companies get a great advantage to advertise and expose their product to over 250 million people that are active on facebook.

The article I posted was very helpful for my blog and I totally agree with the points that are made; however, they do not include the dark side of social networking in a business environment.

Employees of companies or organizations sometimes feel as if they can express their feelings over their status without any repercussions. This proves to be wrong, in many cases, employees who have updated their status to try and defame or bring their company a bad name have found themselves terminated. A good example is when an employee for the Philadelphia Eagles updated his status to criticize the organization for its off-season moves. In case you were interested in reading more about this article, you can find it here.

In summation, Social Networking has taken up a huge portion of most of our lives and it will only continue to grow into more sophisticated and controversial aspects; however, for now….I see social networking as an advantage in our society.

Unfortunately, it is the year 2035, although it sounds ironic, I hope in the future they make a time machine that can take you back to the past. Honestly, I feel our world and society as a whole melting slowly every single day and it is only a matter of time before our society turns into total chaos.

I wish that our economists and government had taken a better look at our fuel system in the past two decades. I mean come on, did you really think that oil would last forever? In the past 5 years we have slowly climbed out of the recession; however, now it seems as if we are sliding right back down into it.

Although you cannot put a price on solar energy as a source of power for cars, you can put a high price on electricity. Building plans have been restructured in all urban areas to have charging stations for electric cars. At the time, it seemed like a great idea, but now people are starting to regret it. The gas and electric bills of these buildings are through the roof (not literally), and because of that, electric charging prices have skyrocketed.

In addition to that catastrophe, health care has also taken a turn for the worse with all of these new fancy innovations. Scientists have discovered how to successfully clone humans and pets as well as replicate artificial organs. Sounds great right? Wrong. Cloning and replicating is very expensive and the money has to come from somewhere. Our tax dollars are outrageous and people can barely keep up with health insurance because of all of these changes.

Our society now has had a humongous impact on mass communication. For people my age, in their early forties and up, we are not technology savvy anymore. All of these new touch screen phones and digital billboards are hard to keep up with. Therefore, it is hard to get through advertisements and marketing in the mass communication field to the older generation.

Now, media has to target the younger, more technology savvy generation and completely alter and shift the way we look at media now.

http://www.newsoffuture.com/million_hydrogen_fueled_cars_in_us_future_energy.html

Welcome to the year 2035, things have changed since I was a college student in the first decade of the millennium. Transportation has become more effective and less dangerous in efforts to make more open roadways. First, with the invention of the “Zip-Track”, emergency vehicles, which are trains that can reach up to speeds over 150 MPH. There is a special pathway throughout every urban area to help transport emergencies and prevent deaths because of traffic. Also, police are able to respond to call-ins faster and prevent crime more effectively. Gasoline has become an abundant source in the United States and cars now only run on energy and solar power. Also, in an effort to reduce the production of metal and an overall hassle of losing keys, all cars require the owners’ fingerprint to unlock and lock. In addition to this, the vehicle requires fingerprint recognition to start it. In response, the grand theft auto rate has seemingly decreased by 80% since this innovation.

For those who have sensitivity to brightness or suffer from migraines, select cars come equipped with electronic interior tints. The driver can manually control these tints in effort to increase brightness sensitivity, as well as privacy.

Cell phones are now seen as beepers and two-ways in the 90′s. That was then, in the year of 2035 every mobile device is touch-screen and voice activated for demands. Also, all the iChat video chat and facebook videos are now seen as obsolete, the new trend is video chatting on your mobile device, unbelievable. Now let’s get to the arguably most effective innovation. There has not been a professor-student face-to-face interaction in over 10 years. Every college university course is over the Internet via live video stream. This has helped the economy bounce out of the recession because of the money saved from dorms and books.

Being in my mid-forties, this information age is for the youth. I used to laugh at my parents and older adults for being such greenhorns to my generation’s technology; however, now I am in the same boat as my parents used to be and it is hard for me to keep up with the innovations.

This has made a huge impact in the field of mass communication. It has become a “piece of cake” for companies to conduct their business internationally due to the live video conferences. Oh! And I almost forgot, during dusk, companies have been able to rent out “sky-space” which allows them to project their company logo and advertisements in the sky at specific times.

I had a past experience with going without media for 2 days, I went without it for a full week. This was during pledging for my fraternity and during the last week, initiation week, we had to stay in the library all day with no cell phones, computers, music, or any source of media and technology available to us.

Everyday I slowly started to lose my mind because I realized how important media is to my life. I had an individualized fitness course at the time and those 2 days I went to class and I couldn’t listen to music, I felt like a sissy working out I almost felt like telling the teacher to give me a 0 for the day in participation.

However, when I thought of that, I knew it was worth it to stay because at least she was playing music in the room and I knew after class i’d be back in solitary confinement. It killed me all week and I was itching and begging to know who was texting me and calling me and wondering where I was.

To be honest there really was no clear advantage in this situation, the only advantage was that we were appreciative of the fact that we actually do have media in our society and it is so easily accessible to us.

Although I had the opportunity to drive my car to class, it wasn’t worth it because I cannot drive in my car without listening to music. I don’t want to ever go through this experience again because it was brutal. It felt like a long cold winter day for 7 days long, unbelievable.

In summation I don’t understand how people out there can go through life without media or cell phones, it boggles my mind and its an experience I cannot go through again.

Documenting 2 days of every interaction with media for me was exhausting, it’s way worse than any nutrition or exercise log iv ever had to do. The first day I got off to a late start because I set my phone alarm for 10:30 PM instead of AM and ended up waking up at 2 in the afternoon, wow. After realizing the idiotic task I had done, a mental note went off in my head to immediately check my text messages.
For me, checking my text messages every day is a ritual, when I see that red light highlight at the top of my phone I NEED to see who it is. After doing so, I jumped out of bed and before even brushing my teeth, checked my notifications on facebook.

After brushing my teeth and getting ready for my already late class, I plugged my iPod in to my computer to charge it and sync it for the gym after class. On my drive to class I was bumping Jay-Z’s blueprint 3 in my car.

Without music in my car, I would go nuts, I would become an even more aggressive driver and would just not be in a very peachy mood, is what I learned about this 2 day experience. What I also learned is that it is even more boring and not motivating to work out at the gym with no music. At the gym I watched the sportscenter highlights.

That night I took the shuttle to class and took time out to realize all of the ads and media that are presented on the bus such as OneCard and TigerThon. Got back after night class, did a little homework…..and then watched the latest 24 episode on hulu !!!!

Overall I would say that I spend about 70% of my waking hours involved with some sort of media whether it is my cell phone, my laptop, TV, video games, music, or advertisements. After logging all of my media activities it is safe to say that I am exhausted.

The media habit that surprised me the most was the fact that everywhere I go, no matter what task I am doing, I enjoy and crave listening to music. It doesn’t matter if I am sitting at my desk doing work or playing a video game, I feel the urge for music and it is like a calming drug for me.

I learned that people take media and technology for granted and that media and technology makes our lives so much easier that we don’t really ever take time out to realize it because we are so caught up in it.
